I have 10 Winslows mostly D grades but a few C grades and a B grade. These are the best pipes I have ever smoked. I have a full rotation or two of just Winslow handcuts. They're beautiful.

<em>Sounds nice. I wish I had 10 Winslows! Poul will be pleased. (I chat with him on Facebook. I'll pass this comment on to him!)

I have been a pipe smoker since my early 20's (now 52) & discovered meer pipes only a couple of years into my pipe smoking "career". At the time I owned & smoked 7 briar pipes, which I rotated daily. Upon my first meer purchase, I immediately retired the briars & haven't looked back! Although it was a lesser expensive meer (about $30) I enjoyed its superior smoke-ability & the fact that I didn't need a whole collection of pipes. The process of coloring was an added bonus. Over the years I have purchased several meerschaum pipes, each a little better quality than the previous, & have continued to enjoy the pleasure of smoking my favorite tobacco blend.
About 3 years ago I discovered Sinan Altinok's pipes & decided to make a purchase from him. I was & am still extremely satisfied with my decision! My newest meerschaum (the Umbrella Calabash, carved by master carver Medet Kara) is by far the most splendid pipe I have ever had the pleasure of owning & smoking! Although it is not one of the most expensive pipes on the Altinok website, it is a beautiful piece of artwork & the most pleasant smoking pipe I have ever owned. I look forward to purchasing again from Mr. Altinok in the near future.

<em>Hi John, and welcome here. I have purchased pipes from Sinan Altinok and have only good things to say about him. Your conversion to meers does not surprise me. I am very fond of my small collection of them. Colouring them is a life long project.
Thanks for commenting here sir. Now, where did I put my big meer..?

Iwan Ries is an excellent shop! I am on the West Coast in Southern California. I have purchased from IR many times, and will continue to do so. If I'm ever in Chicago, I plan to make a trip to the store in person. I'd love to browse their inventory in person rather than just in the internet.

Happy Smoking!

Never having been to one of these events myself I must say that I hope your experience was not typical. It sounds like the trip was worth it in spite of the problems related to the contest and that a good time was had at any rate.

It is a beauty of a pipe, congratulations! I have a soft spot for panels anyway. I take it this is to become a "house pipe". Dropping it on anything other than your lap or a plush carpet would be a crime.

What is the intended fodder for this piece of work? And how is the weight?

<em>Hi there, welcome back. I'll be feeding it with Virginias, probably flake.
I'm experimenting with Orlik's Golden Slices right now.
Yep. It's a house pipe!
I haven't actually weighed it yet, 120 grams? Not bad for a large pipe.
Beautifully balanced though. A real treat to smoke.

You were very fortunate to find such great pipes of that age, in that condition - and unsmoked. Enjoy your first smoke, I look forward to reading about it.

I have only one and it is one of my best smoking and I have about 30 and have been smoking for 50 years. I like Yenji with Latakia mixtures.

<em>Thanks and welcome. Yenji (or Yenidji) is very spicey. I cannot say that I have ever smoked enough of it to form an opinion. After 50 years with the pipe, you must have some stories to tell..!
